LeaveLogic, a subsidiary of the Unum Corporation, is a B2B SaaS application used by employees at organizations of various sizes to plan the process of taking a leave of absence for a variety of potential reasons.

I finished a previous designer's work on the design system, redesigned onboarding and a home dashboard with the new design system, and added features that gave overviews for specific benefits and made it easier to edit a LeavePlan once created.

I inherited a basic design system that had visually beautiful foundations, but lacked certain key elements. Buttons were present, but links were not.

I also created nested components, like selectable card components with the pre-existing radio button to be utilized in checklists and dashboard screens.

I redesigned elements of the onboarding experience from being a one-size-fits-all solution to being tailored to the specific type of leave (i.e. parental, bereavement, etc.) a user was taking.

I also created features that allowed users to get more granular information on the benefits they were legally entitled to, as well as editing their LeavePlan and breaking up time off on leave into intermittent blocks of time not taken consecutively.

Outcomes

The additions of the improved onboarding experience, new design system rebrand, LeavePlan calendar editing, and To-do list/benefits overview pages got excellent feedback from users, reduced customer success' volume of tickets, and helped with the sales team's outreach to new accounts.

This project reminded me that users don't often read large blocks of text, even when it's related to benefits they're legally entitled to. I dealt with this effectively by:

This project reminded me that users don't often read large blocks of text, even when it's related to benefits they're legally entitled to. I dealt with this effectively by:

  1. Separating large amounts of info into digestible chunks

  2. Making info easy to access after initially viewing it

  3. Place info in areas of the screen where user attention is focused.
